4 Simple Ways to Reduce Tension

Getting rid of stress and tension is not as hard as you may think. There are 4 things that you can do that are free of cost and can help you to achieve a grounded mental attitude that will reduce stressors.

Leave the smart phone in your pocket and take a nature walk to recharge batteries and connect with your natural surroundings. Taking the time to hear the birds chirping and leaves crunching under your feet will transport you to another place and reduce tension.

Take a seat on the floor or chair and meditate daily for 15 minutes. I find that morning meditation gets me prepared for the day and to feel grounded. Close your eyes and go to a visual safe place that feels comforting and allow your thoughts to come and go. Don’t hold onto them by making judgements let them flow. If this task sounds too daunting try sitting for a few minutes while being mindful and sitting with your eyes down-casted, focusing on your breath moving in and out.

Acupressure is a great way to reduce tension. There are two points that help reduce tension located on the temples next to your eyes by the hairline and the other is on the forehead between the eyes. Apply light pressure and move in a circular direction for 30 seconds and then reverse for another 30 seconds.

One final thing that you can do to reduce tension is to laugh. Laugh at yourself, laugh at everything. For many, this feels unnatural, but it helps introduce levity when things are tough and tense. You may need a laughter mentor listen to comedian podcasts in your down time to find humor.

Tension is a normal reaction to life and small bits of it can be positive and motivate us. But, try these 4 simple tips to keep the scale balanced.
